sectiontoo: KiSS

sectiontoo is one of my favorite collaborators - from being mutuals on social media to completing two creative projects back to back was a blessing! After completing our creative work for the song "CLOSER" - he wanted to connect for his next single "KiSS"! THE QUESTION: How do you convey familiar intimacy without it feeling too on the nose in the visuals? How do you simulate space in a square format for the single artwork? THE PROCESS & SOLUTION: With free rein over the creative direction of the visual, I started playing around with this idea of moving through clouds - the feeling of intimacy and sneaking away to grab a moment. So there is an intentional cutout to see that moment in the artwork! We switched the images a few times, but finally landed on the person requesting the kiss's point of view! AND THEN HE WANTED TO DO A LYRIC VIDEO - so I took the idea of the cut out and made it a ransom note feel to match the energy and playfulness in the video - working as a distant but referential companion piece for the single cover! Each word was made by hand ( constructed letter by letter ) in Photoshop and exported & animated in Adobe After Effects & Premiere Pro!
